Testimony of Phumeza Jack, previously a student of NBI

The name Phumeza means ‘success and achievement,’ which suits Phumeza Jack to a tee. This phenomenal woman was born and raised in Khayelitsha, one of the largest townships in Cape Town. She has three siblings. Her parents Aaron Makili and Mavis Makili raised their family with love and care and instilled in them a heart of compassion for serving others.

Phumeza studied Social Work at the University of Western Cape, under challenging circumstances as her mother was a domestic worker and her father a construction worker at the time. Through perseverance and dedication, she completed her degree in the year 2007. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour on 27 June of the same year and has never looked back. She started serving God as a young lady in her local church by cleaning the church building, then later started to lead young people as a Youth Leader. She felt the call of God to be more involved in her community, then started to serve alongside her parents in an organisation they were leading in the community, called Community Bible Society, which is still functional today, now led by my elder Sister Thando Makili.

Phumeza got involved in children’s ministry with Operation Christmas Child for a 5-year period, where she was an International Field Representative, traveling to 11 Countries, training and equipping church leaders for children’s ministry. This is where her call to train other leaders was birthed. She was coached and mentored in this role to be more effective. She got married to her loving husband Pumlani Jack and they have been serving God together, leading a local branch in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch for the past 3 years, under God’s Purpose Christian Revival Ministries, led by her in-laws. Phumeza is thankful to her husband for supporting and encouraging her to reach greater heights in the ministry where God has called her.

Phumeza then enrolled at Nehemiah Bible Institute to study a 2-year course on Church Leadership and Ministry Development. She learned many valuable things and after her graduation, she started to lecture NBI students. She was elected as one of NBI’s Board Members and is currently serving as an Advisory Panel member. She has grown as a “Woman in Ministry” through NBI, and her life has been transformed in ways she couldn’t imagine! Phumeza wants to encourage all the women out there who may be reading this testimony that anything is possible with God, if we believe and through Christ who strengthens us.

In her encouraging words, “You may feel inadequate, limited, and unable but allow me to remind you that you can do it if you put your heart and mind to it and allow God to use you in his mission for his Glory. Stay blessed.”
