Meet Mercial. She knows what it is like to bring hope to those struggling to find it. For over 15 years, she has been working with prisoners through the Nehemiah Bible Institute’s Building Bridges project. Her work has brought light into some of the darkest places, giving prisoners a sense of purpose and dignity that they have never experienced before.
Every day, Mercial is reminded of the incredible impact our project has on prisoners across the country. She has seen firsthand the challenges that prisoners face and the brokenness that many of them carry with them. For her, the work is difficult but incredibly rewarding.
Here is what she had to say: “Many of these people have been dealt a bad hand in life that has landed them in prison. But even in the darkest moments, there is hope. That is exactly what our work at Nehemiah’s Prison Ministries brings to these people behind bars. If you listen to their life stories, life has changed for some of them, and we are the reason.”
Through the Bible study courses provided by the Nehemiah Bible Institute, many prisoners have found a purpose in life again. They have heard about Jesus (some for the very) first time and feel changed when they leave prison (and even when they remain behind bars).
For many, receiving a certificate for completing one of our Prison Ministries’ courses is the first and only certificate they will ever receive in their entire lives. But it represents so much more than just a piece of paper. It represents hope, dignity, and a sense of humanity.
“My work at Bible-Media is incredibly fulfilling because it allows me to be the Lord’s hands and feet in a tangible way,” shares Mercial.
“Working closely with the Building Bridges project and processing tests and letters from prisoners has shown me firsthand how our efforts can make a real difference in the lives of these broken individuals. It is an honour to witness their transformation and see many of them find new purpose and hope for the future.”
Mercial’s work with prisoners goes beyond simply providing them with the educational resources they need for our correspondence courses. With her compassion and dedication, she has built meaningful relationships with many of the prisoners she works with. By seeing past their hurt and brokenness, Mercial connects with them on a deeper level, recognising their humanity and providing them with a sense of belonging in a world that often casts them aside.
Mercial’s work with prisoners is a testament to the power of love and compassion in bringing hope and purpose to those who need it most.
Thanks to Bible-Media and the work of the Nehemiah Bible Institute, prisoners can find a new path: One that leads away from the darkness of their past and towards a brighter future.By continuing to provide resources, education, and compassion to those who need it most, we are changing lives together, one person at a time.
